Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston was conceived in a musical family on 9 August 1993, in Newark New Jersey. Whitney is the cousin of daughter to the singing sensation Dionne. In Newark Whitney started singing with the church choir in the early years of her childhood. When she was 15 years old, she accompanied her mother backing vocals in Chaka's hit Im Every Woman from 1978. The singer went on to sing the backing vocals of Lou Rawls Jermaine Jackson and her own mother and was briefly a model appearing on the front cover of Seventeen magazine in the year 1981. Her work as the lead vocalist in New York funk group Material caught the eye of big record companies, like Arista, with which she was signed in 1982, and was with them for the rest of her life. The first Whitney Houston album was released in the year 1985. It would become one of the best-selling albums by an artist. On the album, she came out with several hits like Saving All My Love for You How Do You Know You're a Good Person? and The Greater Love of All. This helped her achieve seven US number one hits consecutively. It was even better than the Beatles. The album's initial US year the album has sold in excess of 3 million units. Then it went on to be listened to by more than more than 25 million worldwide, earning her the first Grammy. The Whitney 1987 album, with the songs Where Do Broken Hearts and I Wanna Dance With Somebody as popular songs, was a way to build on the success she had achieved. The 1992 film The Bodyguard sealed her spot as one of the most successful musicians ever. While the movie and the performances of the actress were not highly praised, the soundtrack album with her version of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You was her most popular single and albums for many months. The album sold over 44 million copies across the globe. That same year she was married to Bobby Brown who was a former New Edition singer. She was the sole daughter of Bobby and Bobbi Kristina Brown on March 23, 1993. Around this time, her drug abuse was well-documented and she started using it daily in 1996.
